Hunting Area Established for Youth Turkey Hunters

The Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Division of the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources announces an exciting new opportunity for youth hunters. In cooperation with the University of South Alabama Foundation, the first Youth Turkey Hunting Area in Alabama has been established in Mobile County on the USA Foundation Hunting Area.

Hunting dates are the Saturdays of the regular season (March 15 through April 30), and on the Tuesdays and Thursdays as follows: March 22 to 26, March 29 to April 2, and April 12 to 16. These dates correspond to spring breaks in Baldwin, Mobile, and Washington Counties respectively. Hunting hours will be daylight until 12 Noon CST.

To be eligible, a youth must be less than 16 years old and accompanied by a properly licensed adult 25 years old or older. The adult supervisor must remain with the youth at all times. Only one firearm will be allowed per youth-adult group. Only the youth hunter will be permitted to utilize the firearm for hunting.

All participants must register to hunt by calling the District 5 Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Office in Spanish Fort at (251) 626-5474. Only a limited number of youth-adult groups will be allowed at any time. All permit requirements and rules/regulations will be issued upon registering.
