Alabama Artists – Enter the Alabama Migratory Waterfowl Stamp Contest

Alabama artists once again have the opportunity to enter the Alabama Migratory Waterfowl Stamp art competition sponsored by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. The contest opens January 1, 2004, and runs until February 17. The winning entry will be announced at the public display and judging scheduled for February 27, 2004, and will be used as the Alabama duck stamp for the 2005-2006 hunting season.

The entry must be a rendering of a living species of North American migratory ducks or geese. Exceptions are the Pintail, Wood Duck, and Ringneck because they have been selected within the past three years. Only Alabama residents are eligible to participate in the contest. However, any person who has won the contest during the preceding three years shall be ineligible to submit an entry in the current year’s contest.

Submissions must be the contestant’s own original creation and may not be copied or duplicated from previously published art, including photographs. The design must be a horizontal drawing or painting not to exceed 9 x 12 inches. No scrollwork, lettering, or signature can appear on the design itself. Each entry may be drawn in any medium desired by the contestant. The wing and feather construction must be particularly well defined, as a printer is reliant on the art of the naturalist for detail.

Three judges for the contest will be selected annually. The judges will be recognized experts in the fields of ornithology, conservation, and/or art.

Union St., Montgomery AL 36130 to request a copy of the contest rules and reproduction rights agreement, or download them from the Department’s website www.conservation.alabama.gov/agfd/waterfowl/default.htm  Employees of the ADCNR and members of the contest judging panel and their relatives are not eligible.
