Students learned how to identify popular sportfish in Alabama. This cool looking fish is a striped bass. They also learned that anglers support our programs. |
Mr. Jackson explained to students that mussels and snails are important in the aquatic environment. |
Mesmerized, a students asked, "what's in that tank?" |
Samples of an exotic snail were shown to the class. Exotics may be harmful to native critters. |
Mr. Jackson points out the lateral line located on the side of the channel catfish. |
Channel catfish are known for their whiskers. The technical term for fish whiskers are barbels. |
Look! A small largemouth bass. The biggest largemouth ever caught in Alabama weighed more than 16 pounds. One student said, " wow!, that's how much my baby brother weighs." |
More mussels and no it is not the same muscle as in the human body. It's easy for a child to confuse the two words. |
Freshwater fish are fun to catch. It was recommended that students go to our website and print out a copy of our How to Fish Booklet. |
Bluegill are popular in Alabama. They are also referred to as sunfish or panfish. |
