85. The Pike County Pocosin-Sellers AdditionDate of Purchase: December 23, 2010
Location: Pike County; T09N, R22E, part of Section 6
Acreage: 143 Acres
The Pike County Pocosin-Sellers Addition of 143 acres supports two unique plant communities: an uncommon scrub-hardwood/longleaf pine/reindeer moss vegetation type and an unusual evergreen plant community occurring in deep ravines on the site. This tract serves as an addition to the original purchase (see acquisition #12) within the Pocosin. It also serves to partner with Troy University, which holds a 17 acre donation of Pocosin habitat previously donated by the Seller’s Family to TSU, in support of environmental education programs there.
