Coastal Resource Planning and Management AccomplishmentsCoastal Resource Management and Planning Accomplishments The State Lands Division, Coastal Section sponsored the 16th Annual Alabama Coasal Cleanup. More than 3,828 volunteers collected over 82,614 pounds of trash from 303 miles of coastline in Mobile and Baldwin counties. Additionally, Coastal Section facilitated improvements to eight (8) public water access sites in Mobile and Baldwin counties. Also, the Coastal Section printed and released the fourth (4th) edition of the Alabama Coastal Counties Environmental Handbook, a directory of federal, state and local agencies focusing on natural resource conservation and management. The State Lands Division, Administrative Section administered thirty-five (35) contracts for implementation of the State of Alabama Coastal Impact Assistance Program. Staff also continued implementation of several in-house CIAP contracts. Also, the State Lands Division, Administrative Section reviewed and permitted a beach nourishment project in the City of Gulf Shores in Baldwin County. Initial review for upcoming beach nourishment projects along the Alabama coast has already begun. |
